Photos and outfit sets from the live blogging event / catwalk show on 27/9/13.
All the photos I took (the good onces, at least) are now uploaded on my Flickr, but these are the ones I referenced to create polyvore sets after the show.
(Note to self: please buy a zoom lens sometime soon.)
London Calling
This collection started the show, with a throwback to classic British mod style. All the pieces are relatively basic, but the strong colours and contrasts make a big impact.
Although they focused on the Scottish theme, the finale outfits still reminded me of this very first section of the show. Allover tartan can be kind of hard work to pull off, but there are a ton of dresses around that make it easy to find one that suits you.
Colour blocking / contrast
I loved this model's outfit in this section. Recently contrasting colours have been coming into play more often, and not just with black and white. Having two really rich colours next to each other works really well and makes you stand out, even when your outfit takes minimal effort to prepare - dress, coat, shoes, done.
Leopard print
This outfit looks so damn classy I can't get over it. I used to think leopard print was for people like Cruella DeVille, but when the model came out onto the catwalk wearing this I was amazed. I'm still undecided on the shoes, but the overall look is really classy and chic, especially using just high street brands. Once again, it's an effortless look that seems so sophisticated.
Black & gold
I thought these dresses looked really great for the party season - wishing I had the money / style / self-confidence to be able to wear that one the model on the left is wearing - and they're a statement in themselves so you don't really need to worry about accessorizing. The only thing you do need to remember is a nice coat for when you leave the party.
Forest green & berry red
I love love LOVED ths outfit and it's one of few that I think I could actually do. The dark greens are easy on the eye, and I love wrapping up in a big coat in winter, but the tights add so much more fun into it. Of course, you could always go for patterned tights, or more subtle colours to tone it down a little. I think the key to an outfit like this is to not try too hard to match the colours - let's face it, you're not gonna find a coat and dress that match EXACTLY, and if you do, you have too much time on your hands.
Floral
I thought this outfit was really cute. The dress is playful and fun, but the dark tights and shoes mean the outfit doesn't look too dressy for a rainy day. I also loved the floral spilling over onto the bag and umbrella, keeping all the pieces linked.
So, that's my opinion. Let me know what you thought of the show if you want, and feel free to take a look at my other photos from the event here.
